Empowering Rural Talent with Akshara Scholarship – Leading Paths to Professional Futures
Akshara is not just a scholarship, it’s a declaration of belief in the potential of rural children, especially girls. Launched by the Ruma Devi Foundation, Akshara uplifts bright young minds who are being held back by poverty, pressure, or gender bias. With financial support, emotional encouragement, and public recognition, we don’t just fund education , we ignite futures.

When Dreams Are Silenced by Circumstance
In Rajasthan’s remote villages, thousands of students wake up with ambition but sleep with frustration. These are not children without potential — they’re children without support.
Talented girls, in particular, face the cruel weight of:
Financial constraints
Gender-based expectations
Social pressure to drop out or marry early
Even when they fight through and earn admission to fields like medicine, engineering, design, or arts, the road ahead is blocked — not by failure, but by financial impossibility.
This isn’t a lack of will. It’s a lack of access.
And we refuse to let that decide their future.
Akshara: A Stand for Every Deserving Girl
The Akshara Scholarship Yojana, backed by the Garhwal Family Foundation and inspired by Ruma Devi ji’s journey, was created to stand with students who dare to dream beyond their limitations — and especially with young girls whose circumstances try to silence their potential.
Akshara seeks out students who:
Are academically promising
Are from underprivileged or rural families
Need both recognition and resources to continue their education
Program Highlights:
54 students supported in the 2024–25 cycle from Barmer, Balotra & nearby villages

This program doesn’t just hand out cheques — it raises heads, lifts spirits, and rewrites narratives.
From Isolation to Inspiration
What we’ve seen through Akshara is more than measurable — it’s transformational.
scholarship distributed to 248 students .
Students once on the verge of dropping out now preparing for professional careers
Entire families and schools motivated by the recognition and celebration
A cultural shift, where rural girls are no longer hidden behind silence but applauded for their courage
In Barmer and Balotra, the award ceremonies became more than events, they became moments of pride, dignity, and empowerment. Girls who had never been on stage before were called forward.
And as they held their certificates, you could see it in their eyes:
They knew they mattered.
